What is School Psychology?

School psychology is a field that focuses on the application of psychological principles and methods to support the academic, social, and emotional development of children and adolescents within the context of educational systems. School psychologists work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other professionals to help students achieve their academic and personal goals.

The primary role of a school psychologist is to assess and identify students who may be experiencing learning or behavioral difficulties, and to provide appropriate interventions and support to address these issues. They may also work to promote positive school climate and foster a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.

School psychologists are trained in a range of assessment and intervention techniques, including psychoeducational assessment, individual and group counseling, behavioral and academic interventions, and crisis intervention. They may also provide consultation to teachers and other school staff on issues related to student behavior and learning.

In addition to working directly with students, school psychologists may also be involved in research, policy development, and advocacy related to education and mental health.
